Waterbirds, Wading Birds and Shore Birds Paintings
In this section you will see many of these interesting water birds- from ducks to pelicans, we have plenty!
Fishing
Green Heron Watercolor Painting
A most interesting fact about the Green Heron!
They typically stand still on shore or in shallow water or perch upon branches and await prey. Sometimes they drop food, insects, or other small objects on the water's surface to attract fish, making them one of the few known tool using species. This feeding method has led some to title the green and closely related Striated Heron as among the world's most intelligent birds.

Let it Snow
Snow Geese in Flight-Acrylic Painting
The snow goose migration can see hundreds of thousands birds together. They fly south for the winter in huge, honking flocks that may appear as a "U" formation or simply as a large "snowstorm" of white birds.
Amazing.

Standing Room Only
Pelican Painting in Watercolor
I was surprised the first time I saw these birds at Horicon Marsh. I had no idea that White Pelicans were frequent visitors! This group of preening pelicans are in breeding season- as they have the large flat 'horn' on their bills, which will drop off after breeding and egg laying is done.

Pelican Macro
Close up painting of a Pelican in Breeding season.
In the breeding season, there is a latterally flattened "horn" on the upper bill, about one-third the bill's length behind the tip. (not shown in the painting) The horn is shed off after the birds have mated and laid their eggs, and outside the breeding season the bare parts become duller in color. I have somewhat 'embellished' the bill coloring to add interest to this already peculiar bird.

Red Necked Grebe Family
Red Necked Grebe Acrylic Painting
I couldn't help but want to paint these amazingly cute little grebes! The zebra stripes on the babies are adorable.Parents take turns incubating the eggs, until the downy chicks hatch; when they immediately climb onto the parent's back, where they spend most of their time until they are 10–17 days old.
